24X36 acrylic on Masonite
This is the finished version of Traces Of Snow, and my first painting for 2008.
This is a scene I saw while driving through small towns in Texas. It was right as the evening sun rays were covering the cold wet earth with rich warm hues.
I had forgotten what a challenge painting on Masonite is. Ive gotten so use to the texture of the canvas, and how convenient it can be. But I am please with the final result.
Color and texture was my main consideration on this piece. Establishing the last warm rays of light on a Texas evening. Capturing the contrast between the cool whites on the patches of snow and the warm hues on the dried field grass was an amazing experience to paint.
